Don't buy anything OTHER THAN IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad T, X, and W/P Series (especially X230, T440p and T480, those are the best pads for bucks) if you want the Real Business Experienceโ„ข
Other business laptops are welcome in /tpg/ (Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook)

Why ThinkPad?
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap
>Excellent keyboards, tactile feel and quiet
>Great durability: magnesium roll cage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop
>Easy to repair (most models), upgrade & maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model, spare parts easy & cheap to obtain
>Excellent Linux & *BSD support
>Trackpoint (why the fuck wasn't this in the general before? that's the only reason to get a thinkpad in 2025 honestly)

I'm trying to get an X1C 6-9 but I keep losing out on everything on ebay. What's a realistic price target I should be aiming for? Aiming for an i7, 16gb ram with min 512gb drive (but will probably swap anyway)

Thought that was a new BIOS splash image for a second. It's been a while since one has been added...

Funny how new-ni/g/gers are seething at the inclusion of anime--on 4chan of all places--when most of the entries in the booru are anime related. It's like the OP(s) of the anti-anime threads didn't even bother looking through the resources.

Also, you're an honorary nigger yourself for hasting through creating a thread and copy-pasting the OP of the previous one without reading it over. FAGGOT!

This general is better off dead desu (both of them), you guys are all retarded faggots from the third-world.

Shouldn't you approve this anyway because the OP doesn't do proofreading?

Should I buy a T490 to replace my Surface Laptop 1 or will it be obsolete in a few years?

Get a T14 G2, sell your old surface laptop.

The people still buying moddable Thinkpads are capable of following thorough documentation elsewhere. All that's left in /tpg/ are repeated /sqt/ tier questions and people that miss the point and are asking what current gen Thinkpad to buy at full retail.

T480? Good specs, sturdy body, about all that's comparable. T540p and T440p are not obsolete, they run Windows 10 and 11 just fine, but if you are running 4GB RAM for whatever inane reason, it's time to move up to 8GB. 16GB or more if you are a thousand-tab autist.
It just works.โ„ข
These are the oldest machines that can even take an m.2 SSD without an adapter for the 2.5" bay.

So I need to sell some stuff because I'm very short on money and highly in debt.
I'm thinking about selling my macbook Air M1 2021 with 8gb of ram and 256gb of storage. However I still need a laptop.
Of course the only laptops I trust are thinkpads and I've been wanting to go back to daily driving a Thinkpad for a while now. I've been thinking about getting an AMD T14 or T14s. Do you guys think, comparing the unified memory and the M1 chip, I would experience worse performance in the T14? How about battery life? Pretty much the most important reason I got the M1 in the first place is the amazing battery life.
I suck at benchmarking and I don't understand most of what those numbers even imply. So thanks a lot for helping me out with this.

Only three reasons to prefer P51 over P52
>poor
>autism about key width
>autism about mechanical dock
If you plan to eg run VMs or use Gentoo the P52 is clearly better with its two extra cores

Found this listing for supposedly a 'Lenovo ThinkPad P15 Gen 2' (obviously fucking not), but still unsure what fucking model it is. My guess at first was a P1 Gen 4 but it doesn't have the speaker grates on the sides of the keyboard. Any clues from pic related? Seller doesn't give much besides stating its i7-11850H and a T1200.

assuming I do need the performance, is there any point getting a brand new modern ThinkPad rather than a Macbook?
besides upgradability (which is very strong point), it feels like the thinkpad is basically outdated and outdone in most aspects

Nobody wants a brand new Thinkpad here too.
