because at this point it easier to manually install arch according to my needs than to retroactively try to bend fedora to my will, unironically skyrocketing the chance to nerf the system (I am not smart)

Fedora is good, I've used it on my laptop for a while and it's been good enough. If I wanted to fully commit to Linux, it would be my first option.

AFAIK it was an issue of the main Fedora repo including the plugin (or a newer version) and then RPM Fusion being delayed in removing the other version - causing the conflict. It's been fixed then.

Fedora is a rolling release so the software packages are unstable, every update felt like rolling dice on something breaking or crashing or otherwise changing in an unwanted way the next week.
For my daily driver I prefer a more stable OS like Debian, where packages may be older but it'll just keep working. I can update Debian every day to get security fixes without worrying about instability.

Also Fedora's package manager is really slow. DNF is not as nice to use as APT and eventually I just got tired of waiting for DNF to refresh, look up packages and install them.

And Debian has better support available, numerous existing answered forum questions and tips, because of the popularity of Ubuntu, so I just trust it more by default. I'd probably run Ubuntu but Debian is just more stable.

This, the OpenSUSE's release model is what made me choose it over Fedora. These days though I would probably choose one of the Fedora Atomic images over it as it has matured quite well.

>Fedora is a rolling release
No it isn't. It works exactly like Debian/Ubuntu: You install a specific version, like "Fedora 42". Updates to that version won't have breaking changes. Upgrading to a new release requires a separate command. Again, exactly like Debian or Ubuntu.
The release schedule is a bit faster than Ubuntu and much faster than Debian, but that doesn't make it rolling. A rolling release distro is something like Arch.

If I were forced to use linux on my desktop, then I'd definitely go for Fedora Workstation, it feels like a very premium and polished product, at least on surface level, it does fall apart rather quickly when you realize how botched it's flatpak pre-installation is and that you have to add the flathub repo yourself still, and that the reports of fedora shipping vanilla software is fake when you see them ricing firefox and also adding bookmarks and shit to it, it's rpmfusion and codec issue is just unacceptable, figure it the fuck out, you are not even a commercial distro, just fucking allow the user to add ALL the proprietary codecs out of the box like Ubuntu does, even if you store it in a technically """unofficial""" third party repo, who gives a fuck, you are not shipping it directly. It's also got the same issues that any relatively vanilla gnome shipping distro does, it's not usable due to how unfinished and limited the ecosystem feels, yet it's also the best option since GTK/GNOME ecosystem has the most apps and third party apps in linux, and is the only reliable and relatively secure one. It also doesn't even set up btrfs with snapshots, so what's the point? Just use ext4 then, not even RHEL uses btrfs. Linux is just such a fucking mess. Ubuntu LTS would be the better option if they didn't advertise Ubuntu Pro in terminal and Software Updater, it does everything Fedora does better, except that it's more conservative and less likely to use testy or shit that's not ready yet.

Windows, as stagnant as it has gotten, is still miles better than anything else because it was written by people who actually cared and were intelligent and capable. Most of the foundation is strong. Linux is sadly rotten outside the kernel.

Does Kool Desktop Environment still have the issue with out of the box showing mouse acceleration as disabled, but it's actually enabled, and you have to enable it then disable it again to have it actually be disabled lol? Or the thingy where you move fast from one opened application in taskbar to another and if you do it repeatedly it keeps growing in size? Good times. What a messy little hobbyist x environment, it must be even buggier now that it's forced to transition to wayland.
