A game that needs a 50 series card to run is going to be shit on only 8gb of VRAM, lots of texture pop-in or weird lag spikes depending on the game. And if you’re just playing indie titles, you don’t need a 50 series, pick up something second hand

it's a waste of money
the 16 gb is the only one worth buying, and is nearly the same price
honestly the 8 gb version is more or less a scam product

this, nvidia is gonna be forced to increase the vram on it's comsumer cards, but that will cannibalize their hpc/ai cards

>take a 1000$ consumer card, increase vram, put a better heatsink, and sell it for 10,000$

It's only because of their de facto monopoly thanks to cuda that they are allowed to do that.
They are literally printing money out of this situation.

how are they allowed to do that? there's is literally no competition, and even competitors that spent billions in manufacturing can't compete due to software limitations. Why can't everyone just focus on using and improving the already existing apis, like opencl and openacc? Even intel and amd are trying to compete against each others on the gpu hpc market while they don't even come close to nvidia.

There's always a use case. This would be for someone upgrading from e.g. a 3060 or older while only having a poverty screen aka 1080p. ARC actually works better for this usecase, especially on the budget and pricing front, but being a new player and not having matured drivers just yet makes it a shakier prospect.

8GB should be enough for everyone.
