Arrogance, selfishness, caste discrimination, inflated ego, continuity of the same ancient culture, lack of humanity and kindness, lack of soul and guilt, treating women as objects list goes on
From my understanding what i think is lack of proper religious ethics.
Religious texts guided civilisations, say what you want but Abrahamic religions have proper religious texts with proper code of life and living, although we may find many of its aspects non conforming under modern standards but still core values of those religions texts guided Europe and Middle East through middle ages
Japan had similar shinto texts etc
When it comes to the subcontinent continent it never really had a unifying religion or language or cause nor movement basically at it's core, majority psyche of subcontinent is still ancient primitive, you can interact with a typical 'JEET' and you're basically interacting with a person from the subcontinent 3000 years ago, basic core values of life and culture hasn't changed even to this day!!
Obviously the entire population is not like this, but majority lets say 80% of the population is what it is
I think the subcontinent missed its bus in the middle ages, and that's why it's still living in middle ages
