it was theorised probably pre jesus because of how the planets double back in the sky, basically they seem to be traveling in one direction but then loop and then continue. the math for non heliocentrism doesnt really add up for these (the antikythera mechanism tried but it wasnt perfect. interestingly it was perfect for predicting eclipses so clearly the mechanism did what it was supposed to do but the model used was wrong), and no one has been able to explain it. if you assume they are all rotating the sun along with the earth the math all checks out and no one has been able to disprove it. when galileo shows up is where things get interesting though. he invented the telescope and his was good enough to see that some of the plants had moons around them (jupiter and neptune and one more i think) and no non planet did. that plus the model copernicus made showing how the double backing is very easily explained in heliocentrism was the killing blow. no one has been able to disprove it

There has never been any definitive proof offered that men landed on the moon (6 times lol).
