I've worked as a cop for 20 years.
This is heartbreaking. I've been there so many times and I always, ALWAYS have my gun out.
The first cops I worked with told me horror stories of people gunned down and even a cop shot in he back of his head an hour before his graduation party.
So every time I go to a car, my gun is out in my hand.
Another GREAT tip. If you are ever stopped in a parking lot and someone comes up to "talk", if they have a knife you can get your throat slit sitting in the car.
So always put the car in reverse with your foot on the break pedal. Any weird issues, and you can reverse. And even if the arm goes into the car it will snap outside away from the driver's face.
