I'm not certain why people still don't fully comprehend how slaves were perceived in the 18th and 19th centuries. They were LESS than pets, and pets back then were more tools than recreation.
If a slave tried to escape, they were given the Iron Gag, or put in a collar, but no slave ever wore a collar name tag.
There used to be little badges for slaves in certain states, especially if slaves were particularly expensive in those places, like Charleston SC, where they'd use little biscuits of copper with the state, address, name of the slave, etc.
No slave received jewelry, they were sold for Jewelry, mainly Manillas.
