rather than contributing something meaningful, i am going to go on a rant

im tired of every model i download having a super advanced rig with horrific performance and drivers everywhere, with everything that can easily be done somewhere else in the Blender UI being done on the armature in Pose Mode instead.

i have to spend hours undoing this absolute mess, i wish the creators would create a "im not a moron" version that has literally only the objects attached and weighted to the armature

i like converting SFM models into Blender because i can do minimal tweaking to the rig and the little tweaking i do uses Blenders internal tools and features

Simplify+ and Mustard Simplify are different addons.

Free, One click it turns off nearly all modifiers.

>Simplify+
Paid, Gives you an overview of how much of an impact each modifier is doing. I wouldn't call it worth it over Mustard unless you really want fine control. Same maker as Proxify+

Paid, but if you really want to go hard on animation, it's a good option. It either decimates, or splits the model, along with all sub-models like clothing, which really helps with performance.

The shit that gives me nightmares are the DAZ rigs where it's all shape keys hidden in a sub-panel. That and models that have materials that switch between 1500 textures.

While I haven't gone through the effort you have, I do understand the frustration of getting a model only to realize I'd have to put in effort beyond just animating it, which would be a turn-off to many newbies who want to mess around and not build a career.
One idea I thought of to help was to ask anons to go through the freely available models and link to the ones that wouldn't require that extra headache, then those links could be compiled into a list and saved in some pastebin that I could link to in the OP pasta.
But, the reason I link to CharMorph is in the hope that some people who are more modeling-focused would find it interesting enough to make a customizable base mesh for it that could be used for lewd purposes. Build-a-bod exists and is decent for headhacks, but it's old and you still need a head to put on there. That and it doesn't have a pre-included material shader or textures, and I don't remember if it has any "rigging" beyond its morph-focused shapekeys. CharMorph would allow people to get something close to their favorite character or an OC wothout knowing how to model or rig. And it also handles fitting clothes to some degree.

I've avoided messing with any of the newer "high quality" models on smutbase that come from DAZ, since they all seem to require an addon to get working right and I didn't like having to do more work just to get started. I might look at them once I get more comfortable, since I've already been experiencing issues with the models/rigs I currently have and other unexpected parts of the learning curve (eg how to set up assets properly to work in the asset browser).

Well, "Various tutorials for blah, blah, blah" is both accurate and a catch-all for the contents of each link (the previous greentexts were just the same thing but with different words, I realized), which are all various kinds of tutorials rather than one category or another. The GDrive link is more of Anime Nyan's stuff plus some others and is better organized than the Archive.org link, but I included both for the people who didn't want to click a Google link.
