anime one is the best but you can upscale in comfyui pretty effectively. You have two options, in-model upscale (which are usually necessary anyway), and then post-processing upscaling with models like waifu2x. You can even do plain upscaling locally outside of comfyui with any GAN, or even Nvidia's own upscaling. If you can VDG you can upscale better than the website.

Topaz is practically the only not free/open upscaling that's 'worthwhile'.

Trick I have used to combat the common slowmo problems is to generate at 20fps and 3x up to 60fps. If you use a lower framerate like 12fps the motion tends to be slower. I think this is because wan 2.2 was trained on 24fps videos so generating with as close to 24fps as possible helps

We need a new dictionary for wan 2.2. From experience the model has a bigger preference for certain words. It understands "always" but not "over and over", it seems to dislike the word "move" but with "run", "walk", "jump" it is responsive. Same for "look", never once have I gotten a character to face a direction with "looks".

This 480p runs quite quick on my 2070. Like 5-8 min per 5 second clip. Using the workflow example and settings as is and umt5_xxl_fp8_e4m3fn_scaled.safetensors.

The only things I've adjusted so far are input image, positive prompt, resolution, length and loras.

There are a few Upscale templates packaged in Comfy that can get you started with some modification. It's not hard on the VRAM. You can absolutely plug the "load upscale model" and "upscale image (using model)" nodes into a video workflow.

Note, these models all kind of default to 4x, but you can save some time if all you want is 2x by hunting one of those models down. Talk to ChatGPT about it, it's very helpful.

Trying to optimize 720p. I'm on a lowly 5060ti with 16GB VRAM.

Same setup each gen, only changed model and blockswaps.
>Q5 GGUF is 12.7GB, takes 25 blockswap to work
>Q8 GGUF is 18.1GB, takes 35 blockswap to work

I see a roughly 30% faster gen with the Q5 and no perceivable difference in output other than that little strappy doohickey hanging from the ceiling moves differently?

...and of course the upscale.

I forgot that the squirt lora I'm using makes them squat if they're bent over like this.

If you're doing this, you need to test a few scenarios:
- no loras, raw model.
- "good" loras, ideally made specifically for 2.2
- "bad" loras, or loras for 2.1 that you use with 2.2.

I say this because it could be an overfit lora you are using there, so the model doesn't change much in that case.

Testing with or without loras doesn't matter, because I will be using them in practice. I'm comparing apples to apples, and there's no difference so I'll just take the cheaper apples.

I was using the Wan2_1-I2V-14B-480P_fp8_e4m3fn.safetensors checkpoint for 480, which is as big as the 720p Q8. I just never got into the GGUFs until after I decided to jump to 720p.

This clip took 860 secs at 10 steps on my 2070s. at 4 steps the time is like 300~400, but with a quality hit depending on the lora and content.

And just for quality comparison. this clip is at 6 steps took 580 seconds on a 2070s.

Testing the step counts now. Same workflow, seed, etc. Using Lightx2v so 4 steps baseline. Heard tell of better results with more steps, but I'm not seeing it.

Resulting gen is obviously slightly different, but not of higher quality at all. For what it's worth, I'm as happy with that 4 stepper as I am with the 6, and I'd have rejected the 5 because of the weird artifact on the left of the screen towards the end. So I'll just go ahead and keep my extra 110/220 seconds of gen time, thank you very much.

I'm using RealEsrgan atm with the slightly more realism-targeted gens I've been doing. There's a x2 model for it that saves a lot of time over the x4. The thing to remember is that if you specify final dimensions smaller than what the upscaler model is listed for, it's still running the full chooch and then the results are downscaled to hit your target. So for instance, I'm aiming for 1.5 of 720p, which is 1080p - the x2 and x4 models still upscale (to 1440p and 2880p respectively) then down, so that's a whole lot of wasted time.

With all of that in mind, there's a realesrgan anime model that's supposed to have 1x, 2x, 3x, and 4x built right in, but I haven't used it.

Excellent question! I have it in the same workflow as just part of a one stop post process. I have interpolate after upscale. A few variables to consider. Upscaling takes longer than interpolation, in my experience.

I recommend upscale first.

However, I've had issues with the interpolator crashing my system on long gens at high resolutions. That's just me, may never come up. I've solved it mostly by chopping things up to work on then putting them back together. Not ideal, but you gotta do what you gotta do. There's also a clear cache after n frames variable on the RIFE VFI node - it came set to 10, which was fine for lower res for months, but as soon as I kicked up to 720 I had to run that down to 3.

Prompting I2V wan is so much harder than image genning. It wants consistency above all else. When it's not grabbing a concept from a lora, which seem to work fine, it ignores almost all the prompt unless the image already displays the concept.
It is more fun when the model bends over backwards producing abominations to connect what it knows with what it sees.
