Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Line three baking sheets with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients by combining the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl. Set aside.
Combine butter and sugars in a large bowl and cream until just combined.
Add eggs and vanilla and beat for about 1 minute, until the mixture is light.
Mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
Add chocolate chips and mix well to distribute them evenly.
Scoop the dough using 2–3 tablespoons of dough per cookie. Roll into balls and place them on the prepared cookie sheets, spaced evenly apart.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until the cookies are just starting to turn brown around the edges. They may still look slightly underdone in the center.
Cool the cookies by letting them sit on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.
