I remember some years ago there were great threads, MAD, tokusatsu, the memes, the great rekts.
They just all migrated to wsg, because of the 4mb file limit vs 6mb in wsg and also because after 2014 the FBI/mossad interracial porn spam became very serious, tranny jannies, also the last 4 or so years have been extremelly painful to watch how it became worse and worse.
It used to be gifs with sound that weren't allowed in other boards, now it's just porn and rekt.

Oh, no. There's moderation. They're quite active, in practically every thread, and will pounce on you in a heartbeat for any infraction, real or made up. I'd go so far as to wager that it's them doing most of the spamming.
9 out of my last 10 bans came from either /gif/ or /tv/ - two of the shittiest shitposting boards on the site. /gif/ is just tranny/niggerdicks central, and /tv/ is just /b/ with a theme.
The rules are so vague they can ban anyone at any time for any or for no reason, call it whatever, make it three days so you can't appeal (as if that matters), and move on to the next one.
The same rot is on every board (at least the few that I use) - stupid one line questions, ragebait and race-related provocation, copy/paste spambot nonsense posted over and over and over again for weeks, months, or years on end. And the site's as well as each board's individual "rules" could be used to quash the noise quite handily. If I, someone who knows shit, can write regex filters to catch 90% of it before I ever see it, there's no valid reason that an entire team of people shouldn't be able to figure out how to stop it.

The thing to remember about bans is mods communicate with each other, and log your ban with a public and private reason. The public one is the rule invoked in justifying your ban, and the private reason is basically the mods opinion. So you can "technically" break the rules by posting a webm thats a still image, but the mod will grow a vendetta against you for making too many jokes about indians or trannies or something, so the private reason on your ban log will say something like "20+ posts insulting indians, do not unban"
Its sad as fuck realizing this is some people's entire lives. Sitting in a gaming chair for 15 hours a day dual moderating reddit and 4chan
