The problem isn't that they're quickly knocked down to page 5. The problem is that we have to worry about them being knocked down to page 5. New anons might not know this, but over a year or so ago this board was 10 pages. You could go to sleep, wake up, and your thread would still be there even if no one else bumped it in the meantime. Not so anymore.
That being said, there's still somewhat of a difference between being knocked down to page 5 and being knocked off the index. A thread can be at page 5 for awhile. It just depends on how fast new threads get created.
