there's quite a few files that aren't close to the 4mb limit, i personally suggest using shotcut, it'll let you do some editing as well

thanks, yeah i've made a script which reattempts trim and compressiond until its under the 4MB limit but it always seems to choose either too soft or too agressive settings with ffmpeg. Still trying to get that right. Did you make that montage using shotcut? Didn't think it was this good at it, I'll have a look

yes all done in shotcut but you have to remember your output is only gonna be as good as your input if you use some shitty streaming quality video it'll look like shit no matter what

the more captchas you do the easier ones it gives you. you end up with 5 char static images and about 50/50 whether it requires captcha

yea with manual bitrate you get good at estimating for videolength, scene changes, and the quality you start with. if the original video is decent quality ill try keep it under 30 seconds. most of my stuff is low quality tube stuff in the first place so i end up dropping to 960p since its already compressed and making longer cuts

you should try vidcoder, it has a setting which automatically sets the bitrate to approximate a target file size

thanks! dully noted, i'm a complet newbie to all this video lingo but getting the hang of it through the ffmpeg documentation. playing around with my script i'm starting to get the hang of the bitrate stuff, i might implement bitrate detection and have the compression args adapt to it

i'll give shotcut a go too, these montage are really upping the game, and if its easy to get them under the 4MB threshold, it might just make the whole thing less tedious.
i've finally understood how to rip pornhub and xvideos using yt-dlp, so automating downloads to get material should be much easier from now on. i'll work on some more this weekend hopefully

to start you should not be using streaming site videos as your source material, those are typically lower in bitrate to reduce bandwidth you should looking into siterip quality videos. 15 seconds or less is the key to getting quality looking videos, any longer the pixelation, especially in high motion scenes, become very very visible
