I feel like it's less 'authority' and more 'isolation' being corrupted.
Newscasters always have this uncanny bubble around them, they'll comment on whatever is going on from out of reach of it.
Even fielded reporters have this a lot of the time, no matter what's happening behind them, it doesn't effect them.
It feels like a 4th wall break, whether they break character on contact or do their best to keep a stoic dignity about them, you can see the bubble is popped, and reality can touch them again.
That might just be my feeling though.
