The only real mark against him is his coloring imo. You can tell in his earlier works he was still figuring it out. I suspect he was mostly a sketch artist before and picked up coloring later.

I'm not a big fan of sequel to be honest. I'm pretty sure i know the reasons why he is making a sequel for Kyoko though.
First, way too many fans (gaijins ofc...) are spamming him on twitter for sequels even if he is not very keen on it because he prefer to draw new character and new situations.
Second, look at the sales. If we ignore Yoshie discount (you could buy it for less than one dollar on Fanza last month which fucked up sales numbers) you can see that Kyoko is his best-seller by far. So he's trying to meet fan demand while betting on a safe bet.
