This is supposed to be a party of heroes meant to slay the demon lord, which is an existential threat to the kingdom. They have a duty to protect their civilization by ending that threat.

They had an opportunity to kill the demon lord and secure the safety of their children’s future, to ensure they wouldn’t have to grow up with the specter of demon war hanging over them. And they threw it away for the short-term goal of keeping the pregnant girl away from danger. It’s short-sighted and cowardly. You could make the case that the pregnant girl could stay behind, but the Bull has no such excuse, and his refusal to fight for his own children’s safety is utterly contemptible.

So instead of sending its own (probably weak) soldiers the kingdom saw sending skilled adventurers (practically for free) as a better investment. If the adventurers were to lose they would be replaced by new ones and the military strength of the kingdom wouldn't be affected, and if they were to win they would get both fame and honor while the kingdom would have removed a thorn in its side without losing both soldiers and resources in a war.
