pls redeem and try it, i have not tried training with it yet, so i cant guarantee it wont fuck your shit up, but just want you guys to see its possible
the existing checkpoints would need training to see benefits, but NOT a conversion, you could just train a lora with it if you hack the vae modification in sd-scripts, the latent space is larger and not as compressed without (hopefully) breaking compatibility

here is a preliminary checkpoint (the modified layer in the encoder is trained for 20 epochs on roughly 3k images to help it cope, though the loss was still going down): pixeldrain com/l/FpB4R8sa
comfyui node to try it (if you try to load it normally it shouldnt throw an error, but there will be no change from the original vae/it will be worse if you load the tuned one): pixeldrain com/l/9AS19nrf

there should be an immediate difference if you encode + decode an image
the node also works with standard sdxl vae, but you can expect artifacts since the downsampling conv would go from stride=2 to stride=1 without tuning
