I don't normally post my videos here, since I think most of them don't fit within the theme of this thread, but I would say this one does.
Hopefully some of you frens will like it.

How hard is it to animate in MMD? I’d like to make some videos in my spare time of specific kinks but basically all of the animations I want would be 1 girl and multiple men. I like MMD as someone who watches MMD but I hear blender is way easier to use.

For animating I think most people choose MMM instead, it has a more well-rounded toolbox and user interface than MMD, and then export the motion to MMD and render it there because MMM is glacially slow (though still faster than blender), and many effects just don't right work on it.

MMM has a lot more bugs unfortunately, but in MMD I've never noticed any. Although probably for many people who are unfamiliar with it, the way it works will feel buggy in some cases... the user interfaces is pretty quirky.

It's not hard. Even if you want to use Blender later I think MMD and its package of tools like PMXE and MMM are perfect stepping stones toward learning more about 3D animation, modeling, setting up a scene and general 3D stuff.
But that's just me, I learned some of this 20 years ago and I still find there to be something comfy about a tool designed for the sole purpose of making one specific kind of 3D animation.

Watch a 180 video and then watch one of the AI converted videos. 180 actually makes you feel like you're there in the scene, while flatscreen 3D is just a regular video but in 3D. Not that some of them can't be good, but they're not comparable. Flatscreen 3D also has issues with scale, like when the camera zooms in and out, it feels more like the girls are growing bigger or smaller.

360 is worse than both though, its a complete waste of time and resources in porn.

I do have a headset, and i would say it's definitely not that clear coth. Both formats have big advantages and disadvantages.
For example if you took a regular mmd video with fast camera cuts and made it 180 it would look dizzying as fuck with the camera jumping around so much. 180s are meant to have a static camera for the most part so it simulates you being there.
With flat 3d videos, you can use it for any video and it looks great it's basically flat video with extra immersive 3d frosting on top.
Not to mention rendering 180s is a big pain since unless they are rendered at a massive resolution, ideally 8k they look like garbage.

I don't think this is wrong, but I'm fortunate enough to be someone who doesn't get motion sick in VR. So I have no problem with 180 videos with lots of camera movement. At least in my case I've never seen a video I thought would be better as flatscreen 3D rather than 180, whereas I've seen plenty of flatscreen 3D I wished were 180.

Though I should also note that if you make a 180 video you really have to do a custom camera, even putting aside motion sickness, because good camera angles in 180 VR aren't the same as good camera angles on flatscreen. Some of my favorite authors are ones who understand 180 VR camera placement best.

Thank you. It's always nice to hear that people notice those details, so I know putting them there wasn't a waste of time. I love me some fun transitions, since they are a simple way to spruce up otherwise boring "low energy" cuts between scenes.

VRfag here, I'm not really into your content but I always appreciate a creator willing to dip their toes into VR, so I wanted to offer you some advice.

This is a really good first attempt at VR, and there's no glaringly bad issues with the video. I particularly appreciate that this is a fixed camera video that still understands the VR viewpoint and puts her right in front of the viewer near the end. Getting camerawork right for VR is different from standard videos so its awesome to see that you get that.

There are some minor issues you should consider addressing with the format though, particularly resolution. To be fair, 5K isn't bad by any means, and this video looks more than passable on my headset. But I read your iwara description and noticed you made a common mistake: a 5760x2880 video is not actually giving you a 2880x2880 per eye video, because you're forgetting to account for FOV, as this is a 180 video that is stretched. If you check the rentry in the OP there's a better explanation there, but the short version of this is that while 5K is passable, you should definitely aim for higher if you can. But you had issues with filesizes, and after looking how your video is encoded I can see why.

Switch to H.265, especially for VR (I don't think anyone should be using H.264 if they can help it, VR or not). This should allow you to push for 6K or ideally 8K while still having a manageable filesize and bitrate. Technically AV1 is even better, but AV1 has some minor compatibility issues whereas H.265 has none that I know of. I highly suggest aiming for 8K H.265.

One minor thing I will also mention: consider higher framerates than 60FPS. Most headsets have a refresh rate of at least 90hz, some 120hz, and it makes a HUGE difference in VR compared to flat screens. However, MMD doesn't really do high refresh rates well and it can be buggy, so I would recommend experimenting with it only after you're comfortable with everything else.

The reason why i used h264 is because thats the only format that (nearly) all video websites accept without reencoding, so i am used to using it. However you are absolutely right that i should use something more modern like av1 for the separate HQ downloads, so I definitely fumbled the bag a bit on that one.
Regarding the higher resolution and FPS, sadly thats not reasonably doable for me. Even after heavily optimizing the rendering process, it still takes on average 30 seconds to render each frame, so the whole render already takes several nonstop days. Cranking the resolution and fps even higher would simply take too long and is not feasible for me without paying for an expensive render farm. So 5760x2880 60fps is about the upper limit of what i can reasonably do. I have a HP Reverb G2 (wired PCVR headset) and I use Heresphere via steam for playback. If you're curious about playback methods there's a little bit of information in the rentry. If you're using a wireless headset SMB or XBVR should be faster and easier and is the superior playback method anyway.

In regards to what you said, if you're not super serious about VR and can't be bothered, I think you'll be fine sticking with 6K H.265. This is exactly what ろいろい does and his videos look fantastic, better than some 8k videos even, but keep in mind he accomplishes this with 100+ mbps bitrates.

How do you even render above 4K in MMD? When I try it all the shaders just blow up and put out garbage, if I don't just get out of memory errors instead. And that's with a 24 GB RTX4060 even...

Why are all updates on iwara so damn slow?
They promised they are working on fixing tagging over a year ago and still nothing.
There are barely any updates to the site.
I worked as a webdev and i could do the tagging overhaul in like a week by myself, two at absolute most if i took some fap breaks (and by that i don't mean i am some leet coder, i mean it's actually that easy to build a good tagging system)
I even seen some other webdev people try to offer free help, but they got turned down, this is getting pretty frustrating,
the improvements we so desperately need are always "coming soon" but never actually arrive.

Does anyone remember a video that was posted here about 3 or 4 threads ago, it was on new iwara channel (or old one with previous videos deleted, point is there weren't more than 3 videos uploaded on it), it was a dance with 2 girls, the very first scene had one of them removing the other one's bra from under the shirt and showing it to the camera. At that point I saved it on my bookmarks to watch the rest later, forgot about it, and a few days later my PC blew up and I lost the bookmarks.
Now I watched a video that had a similar scene and made me remember that one, only to not be able to find it again, and the older threads are in limbo by now.
It's a long shot, I don't really expect anybody to remember specially with that vague description (I don't even remember the color of their hair, I'm a dumbass), so any help would be nice.

I cannot stress to you how angry I was the last two days of The Project and I really wanted to scrap that entire last sequence with the amount of bugs and issues that had I had to reopen the file for 3 hours straight to get a chance for all the arms to magically fix themselves. So that's why I hate all the animations in that last part because I had to do it all in one go because if I close the project or God forbid MMD crash the entire scene would have to be constantly re-opened until I magically had all the arms fixed again. so those last scenes were just me scraping everything together trying not to punch a wall out of anger. I genuinely don't think I've been that mad in years lol.

but as for what I would have done I think I would have just made a completely different idea. The girls weren't close enough together for the camera shots to be good I feel but I feel like I done too many doggy scenes so I couldn't really have a front and back shot with doggy which i thought would be alot better. Not an anon who makes things like these, but I might help you out a bit.

For me, procrastination comes from feeling overwhelmed with what remains to be done and/or being a perfectionist.
Start small. Do some minor task, if you can't do something even smaller but still relevant to your project.
Once you complete that, the reward system of your brain should kick in and propel you towards the next, slightly bigger task. Ride the wave until you're comfortable but avoid taking really long breaks (like months) because the longer the break, the harder it is to get back into the zone if that makes any sense.

I've played a shitty but charming video game years ago by the name "State of Decay 2", it has a superb concept but ultimately it's boring and forgettable. However one line from there stuck with me

it helped me with my procrastination problems more than I genuinely thought possible, even if what it says should be completely self-evident to anyone.

Procrastination may never leave you, but you can make it managable. Best of luck.
