Your resolution is too low, models like Illustrious work at 1024x1024 upwards (or in general at resolution of 1Mpixel with aspect ratios that aren't too skewed). You also probably would want to use a different sampler like DPM++ SDE or Euler, and have at least 28 steps.

Best news is that Flux based Chroma has continued to progress and looks promising. It looks like it's successfully doing the training for anime while maintaining the Flux prompt coherence. Melted eyes for example. Artists know not to bother trying to draw details that are too small to get right, they either simplify or they draw at 4K. AI tries to make everything in full quality. Yet it also requires way higher resolution to get things right than an artist would, due to VAE compression smudging things both when it was trained and during generation.

Though as long as you put some close-ups in the dataset to show the AI how details are supposed to look, all you have to do is inpaint or upscale.

The only custom node in there is optional, if you skip it you're using latent mode instead of attention mode. Which is older tech and much more strict, for better or worse.

You can also set up masks externally and use Load Image as Mask. Or use Load Image to load whatever, then right-click the node and use the built-in mask editor from the menu.

In general it's a lot easier to tell what's wrong when you include metadata and maybe a before/after pic.

Anyway, inpainting on Comfy is done through ImpactPack, MaskDetailer node. I try to avoid custom nodes whenever possible, but this one is a must-have just to have parity with the other UIs. https://litter.catbox.moe/l2qnezlpwd0v2wb9.png

Check their documentation for what all the settings do, but the main thing you'll adjust is denoise, that is how much the impainted area is allowed to change. If you go too high the model will just fill in crap from your prompt disregarding the original image; if you go too low it won't be able to make the changes you want. Takes a bit of fiddling until you get a feel for it.

As far as I'm aware, WAI is still the best standard / the yardstick everything else is measured against. Are you using a Vpred version of NoobAI, and if so are you using a CFG Rescaler? Vpred models typically work with colors better with a CFG Rescaler, without one the colors can get oversaturated.

If you used an Epsilon model you wouldn't get the oversaturation problem, but Epsilon models have less color depth and contrast than Vpred models.

Pic related is a test showing the effects of CFG Rescale on the NoobAI Vpred model. The rescaler has a value between 0 and 1, with 0 having no rescale and 1 being the most rescale. I usually use around 0.7.

Although Vpred models require a bit more effort to get setup, I think it's worth it because you can get better lighting and shading and especially for dark scenes Vpred models do them a lot better.

anytest recently got a re-train specifically for illustrious, best for transferring poses while ignoring style and colors.

I do not use others, but heard good things about the noob-trained inpainting model too. Should in theory allow you to use 1.0 denoise when inpainting, the way NAI does.
