If you can survive it yeah you will slowly purge out the bad genes.
but you've gotta win one hell of a genetic lottery. The closer the breeding the faster and but also more dangerous it is. if you are a species with high fertility high mortality like a fruit fly you can make it work but humans are slow breeders. the best you can hope for is maybe a dozen children per female. maybe you can get lucky and breed siblings for a generation or three without any major failures but you're playing with fire. As another anon previously stated the problem with fucking your sister is it's hard to tell your kids not to do the same thing.
A bit of incest here and there isn't really a bad thing, sometimes it might even be beneficial since both parents have a higher investment in their children they're more inclined to raise them properly.
Humans and likely other animals tend to be most attracted to those who are close enough genetically to be like them but still have some diferences, studies have shown that's around the 4th cousin range which interestingly correlates with the iceland fertility data.
But incest is hot and this is fantasy so real world concerns shouldn't really matter that much.
