I’ve never flown in or out of the northeast but customs is an easy process in the airports I have traveled through.

They usually just ask if you have anything to declare, and maybe scan your bag like TSA, so if you’re worried about any issues just don’t bring any of the usual offending items back. Doujins are just magazines and they won’t bother.

As for actually getting them, go to Melonbooks if you want them new. If you want to buy used dominos at a discount, try Mandarake or large Surugaya/Lashinbang locations. They could be sorted by franchise, circle (author), or fetish so be prepared to know what to look for

Don’t forget all of these stores usually let you buy tax free if your transaction is over 5500 yen and you bring your physical passport for them to scan. There’s a rule about not opening the bags after you’ve bought them or the tax is charged at the airport (to stop people from reselling to non-tourists) but they only check if you buy so much that it’s clear you’re trying to game the system

Do you want to fix your oversized cover? I couldn't stand it in my installation lol.
Find the path do the thumbnails:
Settings > Tags and Thumbnails > Thumbnail Directory
Navigate to the directory and search this:
height:<500 width:500 -folderpath:thumb\*\

LANraragi create thumbnails with a width of 500 and resize the height to keep the ratio of the cover inside your archive files. Wide cover (2 pages) such as the one I highlighted will have a height of ~350 while 1 page cover will have a height of ~700.
Now you just have to edit with Photos or whatever to cut the 2 pages cover to be only 1 page to fix ugly cover in LANraragi.

After logging my Japan haul into my collection spreadsheet, I realized a few of my pieces aren’t anywhere online, and I wanna see about digitizing some of my stuff

Book scanners seem to vary wildly in price and I’ve seen some discussions where people recommend just using an HD camera and rig, but that seems kinda rudimentary, especially for cases like this where image quality matters way more than a book of pure text

There are some zero-edge scanners but they cost a ton. The only good way to scan a book is to unbind them. However you are doing it for free, with your time and money. Don't unbind them, just scan your doujins on a flatbed, put something heavy to help flatten the doujin and scan 1 page a a time.
Here is something I scanned. I use a CanoScan LiDE 400. I upload highest quality and resolution on exhentai that I can.

You don't need to do a perfect job I uploaded 80+ doujins that I bought and scanned.
I use a CanoScan LiDE 400 using the highest quality settings. I don't unbind the doujins, I just do my best to flatten each pages by using something heavy on top of the scanned cover.
No one ever complained about the quality of the scans and some were later translated.
