Collection Organisation/ Tagging
I thought there used to be a general for this topic but I don't see it.

I'm looking for a solution to browse my collection of images. I'd like to use AI to auto-tag every image, allowing me to search by tag.

Is Hydrus still the best solution, even if I don't want the public tag repo (way too big)? I'm also not sure what the best ai tagger solution would be.

Hydrus is good. I don't think there's anything else as (relatively) easy to set up and still consistently updated. You can use something like https://github.com/Garbevoir/wd-e621-hydrus-tagger but update the tagger to use https://huggingface.co/pixai-labs/pixai-tagger-v0.9 instead for autotagging.

Hydrus Network can work for your use-case, if you’re willing to configure the tagging side yourself, ignore the PTR or only use a small subset, and integrate an AI tagger. If you want turn-key auto-tagging with minimal setup, you may find better. Personally, I use PhotoPrism. It has automatic classification / tagging features built in (objects, locations, face recognition) and is meant for a photo collection context, rather than booru images. It’s also self-hostable, runs locally/private so your collection is more “personal photo library” than “heavy tagging reference set”, I'd recommend it if I were you.
