Back when One Piece was still on the hundreds episodes threshold instead of 1000s and when Harem,Romcom,Isekai genre especially from LN sources were only beginning to gain a foothold since Shounen still dominated the week sphere IRL and online though I think isekai only began more widespread in early 2010s with SAO. It's still technically not an Isekai but the sci-fi depiction of it's fantasy setting set the course for further expansion of isekai genre.
