His name looks to be spelled ヴォルト in Japanese. If it were meant as a 'b' sound, it would probably be spelled with a ぼ/ボ, like in ボルト/Boruto (which I think is technically Bolt?). The use of ヴォ may indicate that it's meant as a 'v' sound, which doesn't have its own dedicated character (while ボ can be used interchangeably as 'bo' or 'vo,' I think it's less likely that ヴォ would be used for 'bo'). Normally, a small character following a normal one indicates a longer, drawn out vowel. However, for sounds without dedicated characters, I don't believe that's the case. If it were meant as 'Vault,' I think it would be spelled more like ヴォールト or ヴァールト to indicate that longer vowel sound. Thus, my best guess is that it's Volt. I would like to hear input from someone more fluent, though.

Yeah, I've been trying to make things a little more fun, as the literal translations can feel stiff or repetitive. Plus, itazura can mean pranks, naughtiness, or even outright sexual (mis)conduct, so I find 'naughty' to be a good middle ground that sort of fits the range of meanings.

Essentially, I've been leaning more towards 'localization' than 'direct translation' lately, as I think it makes for a more enjoyable read. When there's wordplay or idioms involved, I usually try to make it work in English somehow, which can eat a lot of time as I mull over the options. I can't say I'm always successful, though.

For me personally I try to find a balance between localization and literal translation. This stuff is quite hard.

I tried staying more literal for a while, since I translate as a method of learning/practice, and because boorus prefer literal translation notes. However, it seems like most people don't care about the 'integrity' of the translation or whatever, so I'd rather keep it interesting for them. It also gets dull to keep translating things like "my hips are moving on their own" or "you're hitting me right in the womb" or "shoot lots of cum into my pussy." So, I try to spice things up a little, maintain more natural English in the translations, but without going full rewrite territory.

As an example, take 'sugoi'
Yeah, it literally means 'incredible/amazing/wonderful/etc.' Sometimes, it's overused to the point that I run out of reasonable synonyms to use.
Now, consider what an English speaker would say in some of these scenarios.

Is it said in shock/awe/surprise?
'Oh my god'
'Oh fuck'
'Holy shit'
'God damn'
'Jesus christ'

Is it said in response to great pleasure?
'Oh god yes'
'Oh fuck yeah'
'Oh shittt'
'Holy fuck'

I realize that these are almost all swears, but I'd say that aligns with the sort of response we'd expect in pornographic scenarios. For English speakers, I believe these appeal to more visceral emotions and result in a more enjoyable experience. But, that's just kind of my opinion, and I don't tend to get a lot of feedback on my translations, so I don't know if I'm really correct. At least it should make my translations stand apart from all the MTL slop out there.

Are there any plugins/addons you guys would recommend for scanlating with gimp?
I really want to TL this and all the other untranslated works by the artist, however I find that scanlating is a huge pain in the ass to do, I hate fiddling with text sizes and fonts and trying to rewrite a sentence so it can better fit inside a speech bubble, it's actually so fucking annoying and mentally draining.

Does "free for personal use" permit uploading galleries to exhentai?

What do you enjoy doing in the scanlation process? If you know Japanese, you can just be a translator and then have someone else worry about the visual editing part.
My process is that I use Google Lens as an OCR to get the Japanese text, then I feed the text to an AI translator with the proper context, or ask friends or 4chan for help.
I use Photoshop, and I try not to bite off more than I can chew. For example the cover you showed is probably not something I would try to tackle, it's something that should probably remain in Japanese. It is possible to erase with AI tools or some dedication though.

Nice attempt at saving face there. I don't need OCR, I don't intend on switching to photoslop and I don't intend on using ai to translate anything. I use ai to remove stray text, covers and nothing else. Just because I hate doing it doesn't mean I won't.

I'm asking fellow gimp users to let me know about potential plugins they use, as I hate resizing text to make it fit inside speech bubbles and I the process of outlining my text.
I know they added a new feature which makes it easier to do a text outline, but I'm still not satisfied with it and the plugins I've tried weren't doing it either.

No one's ever gotten in trouble for using any font in exhentai to my knowledge. Maybe some people will give you shit for using an ugly font, but that's about it. I like CC Wild Words, CC Meanwhile, and CC Victory Speech. If you're going for handwritten fonts for SFX and such, SS Pretzel and Brendohand are what I like to use, but of course it depends on what the SFX looks like.
If you guys here know other good fonts please recommend them.
