The Marine Corps Hymn literally starts with the line “from the Halls of Montezuma” to celebrate one of the most famous moments in our organization’s history, the battle where we stormed Chapultepec Castle. This Castle served as Mexicos premier military strong hold and overlooked Mexico City providing a strong defensive position. Storming the castle and seizing it from the Latinx occupying it signified the utter defeat of the Mexican government in the Mexican-American war and was one of the Marine Corps proudest moments.

Every time I hear the first line of our Hymn, I think back to those brave Marines raising the Stars and Stripes over that castle- a symbolic and auspicious moment. Total Americhad victory. Brother, that’s goosebumps right there.
