There are very few sites they claim with proof of wattle in daub from before this period, and their radiocarbon dating is always to be suspected as being made up. They claim the oldest evidence for wattle and daub is Djennรฉ-Djenno which they say is nearly 3000 years old, they also claim there was iron there as they do with all their sites, but then clarify there was only permanent habitation starting ~1800 years ago. I think it's far more likely that it was ~1200 years ago and was after contact with traders carrying egyptian goods like pearl millet through the sahel.
