I should rephrase to "how was he not overthrown". Not a revolt directed at his leadership, but at HIM specifically and people just wanting him dead. And not just his people, but castle workers and knights who all hated his decisions. He could've very easily gone the route of the Orient Express where all his servants kills him and his assassination remains a mystery.

most of his retarded decisions came at a time when he was fat, unwell and people knew his time was near. Also many of the English liked Mary.

I think his children being liked and him dying and in his ill health in later part of his life made sure there was no need for assasination attempts

He bribed the nobles with monastery money. That's the reason protestantism took off btw.

Probably part of it is because Henry Tudor brought the monarchy out of a prolonged civil war between the houses of York and Lancaster and people didn't want to go back to insecurity and having competing claims for the throne again.

Imagine fumbling the single most important nation in the history of the world, all because you couldn't keep your kids alive.

The whole of the Americas would've gone Catholic...

There were revolts, but there was also the lingering memory of the War of the Roses, no one wanted a return to civil war.

these painters obviously had to make him look cool and presentable because if the painter made him look bad he would probably be killed. do you think he actually looked like that or was he way more fat and ugly in real life?

Considering that his father had spent most of his time after taking the throne just pointing to random noblemen, declaring them to be traitors because . . . umm . . . . reasons, and having them executed/exiled so he could take all their land and money Henry originally looked like a breath of fresh air.

By the time he stopped being the romantic and handsome young Henry and started being the deranged, fat, tyrannical asshole he was getting old and clearly not going to last much longer, and each of his kids appealed to at least one section of English society, so why take the risk of starting a civil war when you can just grit your teeth and wait a year or two for the old fuck to die and then start politicking for your preferred heir?

People back then knew that he did what he did because he had to. They weren't so arrogant to think they know better.
