Germanics surpassed greco-romans in technology and intellectual output, but their civilization feels so sterile and utilitarian. Reading about conflicts between principalities that were 15 feet away from each other that spoke the same language and had the same culture feels small scale compared to the clash of civilizations that frequently occured during the reign of Rome. No serious empires really emerged either. They had a loose grip on their so called colonies which were inhabited by primitive tribes that hadnt even invented the wheel yet and these empires were shortlived.
