Yes, it is meant to keep you lazy and unproductive because the needs that otherwise would be your driving force for self-improvement has been artificially satisfied. Same with gaming and all those "achievements" that you want to complete everyday, just complete mental masturbation of zero substance but at least you'll be a good slave to society because no one will notice you and thus you wont have any influence even in your immediate surrounding.
