If the American poor suffered worse, how come they didn't mass immigrate to Europe the same way the European poor did to America? Obviously the American poor had a much higher standard of living.

Also, vis a vis the nobility LARP; by the 1800s, there was basically no real nobility left anyway, and the U.S did have noblesse oblige in the Southern states where a sort of martial-farmer-citizen classical republican style culture fermented strongly.

The majority went on to become far wealthier than those who stayed behind---and had more access to land and the middle class lifestyle.

America was viewed as wealthy by Europeans.
