PBS released a 30 minute documentary on “How Muslims influenced Thomas Jefferson and the Founding Fathers” without even once mentioning the Barbary slave trade. You live in the most propagandized society in history.

The closest they get to even *hinting* at the Americans enslaved by Muslim corsairs is this one line: “[In 1805] we were in the middle of an undeclared war that Thomas Jefferson had waged against Tripoli.” The reason for the war is never stated.

The whole thing’s insane.

Thomas Jefferson literally waged the First Barbary War in response to Muslim pirates capturing and enslaving American sailors when he was President. This was by far the most significant interaction by the Founders and Islam, and was obviously deliberately omitted

I think ottomans and the fact that Muhammed had slaves (consequentelly Muslims) contributed to the normalization of the inhuman action of slavering after the holy league efforts conducted by Philip Ⅱ were many Christians were enslaved by pirates like Occhali

Anon, Morocco is literally one of Americas oldest allies, second only to France, the Founding Fathers were all Deists, I don't think it's that much of a stretch to think Islam had some influence on them. This was also around the time when Christians and "Mohommadans" were actually seen as being more close than they are today

Can you explain in detail what the Barbary Pirates have to do with the Muslim thinkers the Founding Fathers studied?

>Mohammed ben Abdallah became the first country in the world to recognize the independence of the United States.
>Sidi Mohammed ben Abdallah al-Khatib (Arabic: سيدي محمد بن عبد الله الخطيب), known as Mohammed III (Arabic: محمد الثالث), born in 1710 in Fes and died on 9 April 1790 in Meknes,[1] was the Sultan of Morocco from 1757 to 1790 as a member of the 'Alawi dynasty. He was the governor of Marrakesh around 1750. He was also briefly sultan in 1748.
Muslims were the first to recognize American Independence by the way

>Morocco is literally one of Americas oldest allies,
Morocco was the first Barbary state to capture and hold for ransom the crew of an American ship.
Just because they folded like a cheap suit at the start of the barbary war instead of even a token resistance doesn't mean they were allies.

>Muslims were the first to recognize American Independence by the way
They recognized American independence so they could raid American ships without violating their tribute treaties with Britain. That's it.

Would you prefer privateers?
They were state sponsored operating with the full and knowing approval of their nation.
The Barbary states made multiple treaties over the centuries with European nations demanding tribute in exchange for not raiding their coasts and shipping.
This is all easily researchable and verifiable.

Americas first foreign war was against Barbary Pirate ships that were raiding American merchant vessels that were in the med. President Thomas Jefferson, a founding father, was the President who oversaw the war.

In the Marine Corps hymn, the first lines are "From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli" which is in reference to the Marines fighting in this war in their invasion of Tripoli in Libya.

this is one of the things that pisses me off about the current "culture wars"
when I see a documentary or read an article about this up to now obscure fact or person or group of people, is this propaganda or genuine new knowledge that is worth exploring?
I can't trust anything, so I no longer pay attention to most of these, unless it's in an area where I'm comfortable investigating myself or I know enough about the subject to know it's bullshit
genuinely sad and unnecessary
