they were indeed not roman, but they did not hate rome. constantinople actually retained its name for the entire duration of the ottoman empire, the sultan claimed to be the "caesar from rome", and they ran their legal government on roman, secular, non-islamic law. turkification and islamisation is actually a strictly modern turkish phenomenon, the ottoman turks only ever cared about cash flow and decadent comforts.

No, the Gauls, Germanics, Hellens, Etruscans and Phoenicians dont exist anymore. Neither do the Romans. If we didnt have the memory then all what remains are a bunch of ruins.
