>Both begin with the uniting of a peninsula and the destruction of a more peaceful neighbor.(Carthage, Byzantium)
>Both war-like cultures that stole their high culture from their eastern neighbors (Greece, Persia)
>Both civilized northern barbarians through repressive genocide and slavery (Gauls, Slavs)

The only difference is that the Ottomans ultimately failed to subdue the Barbarians, instituting a Pax Ottomania in Europe.

Fun fact: Europeans created cuckold fantasies about mongoloid Timur raping the Serbian Wife of the ancestrally Greek Bayezid, despite their being no evidence of such an event.

The "Turks" largely sided with Timur at Ankara, that's why the later Ottomans took away the power of the Sipahi.

I dont think the romans have a successor but if it was a country it would be the ottomans as much butthurt as it causes. the turkish claim is way stronger than the greek and WAY stronger than the mental gymastics spain and russia undergo

Not really. Ottomans claim was basically: "we got their land & bureaucracy therefore we are Rome". By that logic Zimbabwe is Rhodesia.
The closest (culturally) to Byzantium is modern Russia.
The closest to what it was like politically would be the modern Japan, aka: a medium sized nation that's a defacto city state (Tokyo) That borders a bunch of huge hostile unfriendly states that fucking hate it.

You need to have an aquiline nose to be Roman.
And we're talking about the Roman Republic here, not the empire.

I don't know why but it stills feels jarring watching t*rks try to claim things that don't belong to them.

No, Ottomans were not Roman, they hated Rome and the Quran celebrates the fall of Rome. Turks are now an Islamic society, integrally. No, the Schliemann site is not Troy and we've known that since the times of Strabo. He wrote a whole book on it and cites other authors. No, the Phrygians et alia are not from Anatolia originally but migrated from the Balkans. No, the original Turks are not from Turkey, they are from central Asia.

Won what? Your my countries club in the near east. You keep Russia and Israel in check so we don't have to get involved. Our arrangement is fine with em. But we're getting very modern I think, unless you were referring to something ancient.

except unlike the romans who established laws, institutions and ruled everywhere as elites, the turks received their laws and institutions from the greeks and partly from the arabs, and their empire was run administratively and militarily by slavs and greeks.
>>17794157
>No, Ottomans were not Roman, they hated Rome
they were indeed not roman, but they did not hate rome. constantinople actually retained its name for the entire duration of the ottoman empire, the sultan claimed to be the "caesar from rome", and they ran their legal government on roman, secular, non-islamic law. turkification and islamisation is actually a strictly modern turkish phenomenon, the ottoman turks only ever cared about cash flow and decadent comforts.
>>17794167
>those who do dont say we are literally the third rome we just say yeah we ended them and took the spoils of the war
that's not what the actual ottomans believed though. but of course, you have no connection to those people as you are muslim slavs, greeks, and arabs who speak ataturk's invented turkish language (which was not ottoman turkish) and are a part of his invented ethnicity ("turk" was a religious identity as is very well documented, as for the original turkic warbands, not a trace of them remains).

What kind of stupid, broad definition is that? "European" when they cant even stand each other to this day.
No, the Gauls, Germanics, Hellens, Etruscans and Phoenicians dont exist anymore. Neither do the Romans. If we didnt have the memory then all what remains are a bunch of ruins. These things are so distant to anybody alive today, or even 500 years ago, that it just doesnt hit a nerve anymore. On the other hand the people the Ottomans tyrannized and slaughtered do still exist. Its kind of a selective memory though because Turks got punched in the face hard themselves numerous times by the Balkanoids and Arabs. I remember a story from the first Balkan War where a Bulgarian soldier cut open a pregnant Turk, impaled the baby and showed it to the father, "here is your child, Turk" but when the Turks punched back they didndu nuffin man. It is what it is.
I think the Ottomans upset people because while Romes weird, creepy slave society fit right in with the rest of antiquity, the Ottomans weird, creepy slave society was totally anachronistic so they were just a bunch of backwards savages abducting men women and children to be worked to death or raped as slaves while Europe moved past that already.

Finding similarities between two states doesn't make the later state a successor you retard
This is like saying the early caliphates were a successor to the Macedonian empire because they both involved uniting a population of people with a common tongue/religion and proceeding to topple empire(s) much older and bigger than them while spreading their language/culture before splintering into smaller states. Spain has a better claim to Rome than the ottomans
