>Moral MajorityWhere Protestants and Catholics stopped hating each other so they could build an unstoppable voting block of religious Conservative boomers under Reagan. Prior to that, you could be a Christian and a Democrat. You couldn’t count on religious Christians to carry every election because Christians sometimes had differing opinions on government spending and gun control and foreign policy and such. They might even vote Democrat.
Afterwards, you had a single unstoppable wave of Christian voters who only cared about shit like
>Anti-faggotry>Abstinence-Only Sex Ed in schools>No Violence in comic books>Intentionally not doing anything about the AIDs epidemic>Not allowing swear words on TV>Banning drums or shutting down rock and roll concerts or some shitAnd a bunch of other obscure issues that frankly were small potatoes for something like a presidential election, but the Republican party could count on their vote because they pandered to their stupid ideas like censoring superhero comic books. These people could also not be swayed at all because they genuinely believed they were acting on behalf of god himself, so comprising even on unimportant shit like rock music was basically spitting in god’s face in their eyes. I think Reagan spoke on their stubbornness directly.
Even so, it wasn’t enough to get Bush Sr. re-elected, and their power has slowly waned over decades. Once the WASP wall finally topples, the Republican Party will have to focus on bigger issues than condoms being handed out in highschools.
