How accurate are the Gospels as historical sources? Are there contradictions?
>>17798559 (OP)Jesus, Interrupted: Revealing the Hidden Contradictions in the Bible & Why We Don't Know About Them by Bart D. Ehrman. This book delves into perceived inconsistencies within the biblical narratives.
>>17798559 (OP)Well they were written a century after the crucifixion and have numerous discrepancies between each other and well-documented textual additions and alterations so I mean what do you think
>>17798559 (OP)>Are there contradictions?Jesus has different last words in two of them. Start there.
- Does recognizing the contradictions of the Gospel cause you to become more intelligent
- Does recognizing the contradictions of the Gospel cause you to read the Gospels closer than you wwwwould if they weren't contradictions
- Do the contradictions of the Gospels cause you to love the Gospel even more than if it was even the perfect and most valid statements
YES YESY ESY EYES YESY EYSGE SYE YES YESY EYS YES YESY EYS EYS YES YESY EYS YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>17798559 (OP)Let's go under a neutral point, neither atheistic nor Christian. From this point of view, we don't know. It's not like there are other documents from the same era talking about the same things to compare them with and even if there were how would you guess if the Gospels or the other documents are the right ones?
>>17798561They were not written a century after the crucifixion. The Gospel of Luke was written before Paul's death and Paul died in 65 AD.

>>17798564>They were not written a century after the crucifixion. The Gospel of Luke was written before Paul's death and Paul died in 65 AD.You are wrong
The overwhelming consensus among New Testament scholars places the writing of the Gospel of Luke (and its companion volume, the Acts of the Apostles) in the 80s AD. Some scholars might push it to the late 70s or early 90s, but the mid-60s is almost universally rejected by mainstream scholarship.
Sorry who was there to record the life of jesus when he was a babby? When the devil tempted him in the desert? When all his apostles were asleep in the garden? When he was conversing with Pilate and Herod Antipas?
>>17798559 (OP)They portray Pilate as a simp, then you read about him historically and go wtf
>>17798559 (OP)Check it out everyone the same retarded jeet who spams Plato threads is doing one of his famous Jesus spam threads. You can see him in other threads spamming eye pictures and Jesus pictures. >>17798986>Bro, it didn’t take that long for people to start writing about Jesus. It only took 47 years. That’s not long.47 years ago Jimmy Carter was in office. Imagine if the first historical document alleging Jimmy Carter existed originated this year.
Most alleged “contradictions” dissolve under scrutiny. Take the differing genealogies in Matthew and Luke. Matthew traces Jesus’ legal lineage through Joseph; Luke likely traces Mary’s or a biological line. Both affirm Christ’s Davidic descent, fulfilling prophecy. Or the timing of the crucifixion, although John’s account seems to shift the day, but he’s likely using a different calendar or emphasizing theological symbolism (Jesus as the Passover Lamb). These aren’t errors.
>inb4 “it’s just fairy tales”
If you’re gonna dismiss the Gospels, bring better arguments than “it’s old so it’s fake.” Secular historians like Bart Ehrman admit Jesus existed and was crucified. The real debate is over interpretation, not historicity.

Not very, they tell very different stories if you actually study them critically in depth, and the Synoptic gospels literally copied entire passages.
>>17799327John has no supernatural elements like the sky going dark, earthquakes or the saints rising as a result of the crucifixion. Pretty important details to leave out
