Neither the Holy Roman Empire nor the Eastern Roman Empire were Roman because they were Christian. Only pagans who worship gods like Jupiter, Mars, etc can be considered Roman.
The Roman Empire died in 363 AD when emperor Julian failed to stop the Christianization of the Roman Empire. In fact, Christianity allowed brainrot like iconoclasm and arianism/mono-/miaphysitism disputes instead on focus on state-building, which would eventually lead to the collapse of Rome.
