Original Christianity:
>Jesus is returning soon!
>Everyone will be bodily resurrected from the dead
>We will all live on the New Earth as was intended in the Garden of Eden

Copeianity after Jesus failed to return for 2,000 years:
>It actually doesn't matter when Jesus will return, that was a metaphor
>You aren't resurrect, your disembodied soul just floats to heaven after you die
>Everyone will live in the sky on a cloud forever

Maybe people no longer assume Jesus will return in their own lifetime, but it certainly still 'matters' in every conceivable way when he will return
>You aren't resurrect, your disembodied soul just floats to heaven after you die
>Everyone will live in the sky on a cloud forever
I don't know where you get these from, Revelation explicitly describes God coming down to Earth and ushering in his eternal kingdom with no death and no sin. That has not changed in the past 2000 years last I checked.

When 2000 more years pass without Jesus doing anything, and it's 4025
should we reduce our confidence in Christianity being true?

Except Christians don't believe this. Strawman. Enjoy the lake of fire. It's not a metaphor, as you're going to find out to your horror. :)

Yes bury your head in the sand, that's basically all christians have been able to do for the last 200 years. That and call the opposition fat.

When did Jesus say anything about a lake of fire or any kind of graphic afterlife torment?

Of course not, it's been 4000 years, he will surely be coming any day now. Just a little more patience...
