James II wasn’t that bad. Of course, he was a failure and lost his crown, but he lost it because of his strongly held convictions—even if they are retarded. He went down for what he really believed in. He shouldn’t have fled England like a coward though.

He didn't though. He took a stand when William came knocking but as soon as Marlborough flipped the table on him and he (presumably) shit his pants upon finding out his best general was coup'ing him he rightfully fucked off.

I always had the impression that William III was very cautious with landing, and wasn’t expecting it to be a walk over, but it was easily secured once James II fled. Then all of England easily switched over, if anyone wasn’t sure yet. Pic rel gave me that impression, but it’s only one book, and then online research. Do you have any book recommendations on the Glorious Revolution?

Picrel, but its been a minute since I last read it so the details have slipped my mind. All I remember is Marlborough owed a great deal to James for his rise through the ranks (not that he wasn't an incredibly competent general, just that the British system at the time practically required a sovereigns beneficial hand) and that James's turn toward Catholocism was the nail in of the coffin of their relationship.

Catholicism is much much much better than Anglicanism and Presbyterianism and all the other retard spin-offs and endless sects that were unleased by Henry 8th's desire to fuck Anne Boleyn.

Imagine splintering Christendom for this:

His other two are good as well if you're into either topic. 'Marlborough's America' is nothing like the title leads you to believe, only the last 3-4 chapters anything to do with the colonies kek

it's definitely not an introductory book about the glorious revolution. Pincus assumes that the reader has at least a modicum of knowledge about the glorious revolution and the principal players.
Its point is the glorious revolution wasn't a peaceful revolt against catholicism (most people were fine with james coming to power and didn't support the monmouth rebels) but a violent revolt against french absolutism and a transformation of england into a state based on the dutch model. Pincus focuses a lot on the violence to disprove historian's like macaulays idea that it was a peaceful transfer of power- there were street battles between civilians and the army, riots, mass sackings of catholic chapels and protestant militias in the thousands patrolling the countryside after rumors of irish troops pillaging englishmen spread and inflamed the populace.

You love to see. Webb makes the same case in 'Churchill's coup' and in 'Marlborough's America', in the latter of which he extends to the European campaigns of the Marlborough and the Coalition before reflecting on how several of the Duke's best men became governor-generals in the colonies. Alexander Spotswood in particular raises colonial Virginia out of the muck that Berkeley left it in after Bacon's Rebellion and turns Williamsburg into an actual germ of civilization.
