They didn't, "trickle down" is the pejorative term for supply-side economics. Not one proponent of supply-side ever said that pure maximization of income would lead to the rich spreading their wealth around for some reason. The idea is lowering taxes/regulations will increase productivity, which has a strong relationship with higher wages. Win-win right? Of course it's never that simple since not all "productivity" is made equal, especially in a financialized service economy. That's why I don't see myself among the supply-side proponents. Nonetheless, they're not the ones who came up with the 'trickle-down' shit, that was explicitly coined explicitly in opposition to them.
