The retards in Congress who thought for even a second that they could do to Canada what the Brits did to them really highlights just how retarded Americans are. But then naturally it was mostly midwestfags and southrons so it's really not surprising

Benedict Arnold's ill-fated invasion was still in the common consciousness at the time, and most of the soldiery thought Canada was an inhospitable hellhole that would be their grave.

Canada only exists by uniting all the north american british colonies because some irish hobos with guns conquered the entirety of canada until britshits reinforced it and did all the real fighting. The USA 100% easily could have instantly overran canada and annexed it completely.

Reminder that most of the fires of Washington were started by the fleeing Americans so the British wouldn't get control of the city (particularly use of the Washington Navy Yard). It's rather similar to what the Russians did to Moscow when the French invaded just two years prior.
When the British subsequently abandoned Washington to occupy the much larger and more important city of Baltimore, the nation's third largest, the commander of all British forces in the continent was killed in action and the battle was a decisive American victory.
When the British then tried to occupy New Orleans, the nation's 7th largest city, the new commander of all British forces in the continent was killed in action and the battle was a decisive American victory.
>>17806101
Do you really think that the British would have simply given up such an important city like New Orleans had they won that battle?

Many Americans got way too cocky and we're fully convinced they were going to acquire Canada.
>The acquisition of Canada this year, as far as the neighborhood of Quebec, will be a mere matter of marching; & will give us experience for the attack of Halifax the next, & the final expulsion of England from the American continent.
-Thomas Jefferson, 1812

This, when America threaten war with Canada in 1946 Canada gave up Washington state without a fight when Britain refused to help.

Founding stock American here
My 5th and 6th great grandfather were alive during the war of 1812 but none of them were involved in the war, one would've been too old to fight and the other would've been too young at that point. In fact it's not even clear whether or not either of them were even aware of it happening until after the fact. Hell, when my 6th great grandfather was born America wasn't even an independent country yet
