Joining Taiwan wouldn't make sense because the Republic of China already claims sovereignty over Hong Kong. But the ROC has no presence outside of Taiwan anyway, so they wouldn't be able to effectively govern Hong Kong, nor would the CCP allow them to do that.

My point is that the RoC doesn't want to take over Hong Kong, they want to take over the entirety of China. That's the entire reason why the RoC never declared independence from China. On top of that, trying to over Hong Kong would have given the CCP a perfect excuse to re-invade Taiwan and destroy the RoC completely. Too risky.

I doubt it. I'd guess it's made by some retard on deviantart.
It says 一個聯盟下的五個種族, which feels like a very poor google translate. It says "One union under five races." But not only is it grammatically unnatural but they wouldn't use 聯盟 to mean union here or 種族 to mean races. 聯盟 is more like league than union, 種族 is more like genus than race. 民族 would be used to refer to people.

NATO refused to aid Portugal when India illegally invaded Goa in 1961. Britain likewise expected nobody to aid it for Hong Kong. Also British generals were adamant they would not win and told Thatcher there was no military option on the table.

>Why would China start world war 3 over Hong Kong?
*Why would the UK start a war over Hong Kong?
That's the real kicker here, China cared more about taking back the island than Britain cared about keeping it. Deng knew he could mobilize all of China for a war to reclaim HK, Thatcher could not mobilize millions of Britons to fight a war with a nuclear power over a non-British city (HK being like 90%+ Cantonese and actual British people there being a miniscule population)

I thought traditional characters only gotten stronger when Chiang Kai Shek introduced the Cultural Renaissance against Mao? When the Nationalists had control, they were the ones planning, building simplified characters to be implemented, when Mao took over, he accelerated the progress and introduced the simplified characters. If the KMT retained control, there was a chance simplified characters could be implemented.

I'm not familiar with the situation in Goa, but Hong Kong was leased to the British government by China. In other words, if Britain went to war over Hong Kong, it would have been a violation of their contract and a blatant aggression against China.
Now, that's never stopped European powers from ganging up on China before, but what I'm saying is that it would have been a bad look to sponsor an illegal invasion of a sovereign country's territory.

Not that simple, CCP would have just invaded in that case.

HK was only kept under Bong rule at all because Mao said he wouldn't invade if the Bongs recognised the PRC instead of ROC (which they did)
