Is it only possible for humans to suffer since non human animals are incapable of reason and understanding the laws of logic?
Are human babies and severely mentally handicapped human adults also unable to suffer?

I do think animals can suffer but I read this and it gave me doubts

>Well my general belief about suffering is that the physical sensations are not suffering, we assign mental suffering to that. People subject themselves to physical suffering all the time very often. See marathon runners. Animals likely don't assign mental suffering to whatever it is that's happening in their life. Hungry -> look for food -> no food -> it is what it is -> die of starvation.

Animals clearly suffer; I don't know how you could think the opposite

Think about this for more than 5 minutes anon
When you try and capture a fish without any bait, what does said fish tend to do? They tend to swim away.
Why would a fish who cannot suffer according to you still have a level of (albeit primitive) self-preservation?
I chose fish as an example because they're usually seen as simple and unself-aware and eating fish tends to be seen as more morally acceptable, but obviously this principle is more apparent with other animals too.

Animals somethimes will let themselves stzrve because they are alone or lost a mate/offspring it's a clear sign of mental suffering; whoever made that statement seems to have just made stuff up

But if you hit my knee with a thing at the doctors office I'll react but it doesn't hurt I don't suffer it's just a reaction

But how do you know the starving is not the same as the loss of their mate
