Before the reign of Uzbeg Khan starting in 1313, the Golden Horde was still mostly a pagan horde with a few Muslim subjects (Bulgars), during this period they repeatedly tried to invade Europe.
Uzbeg rapidly progressed the Islamization of the Tatars, and we can see the results in the following century with no more serious invasions of European kingdoms, with warfare primarily focused on internal struggles.
Why did Islam, a religion that promotes conquering the Infidels, not make the already war-like Tatars even more violent, but less?
