Possibly. A higher proportion could have had that serial killer mindset, and they had plenty of avenues to put it into practice. You could be a bandit or a pirate and pretty much do what you wanted to people. Nobody could tell if you choked an old person to death, put a pillow over a baby or got rid of a slave. There were also plenty of enemies about, so that psychotic behavior could be directed at foreigners.
