What would have happened if Saddam had mined the entire border, concertina wire to deal with tanks and infantry, those giant metal spikes, etc in the months leading to desert storm and before it happened he launched Scuds armed with VX/Sarin on the american bases?

they would've just bombed all those defenses and raped the iraqis from the air like they did anyway
as for the chemical attacks, there was every expectation that they might occur and preparations were made; would have resulted in many more casualties though
but that would be all the justification needed for a full scale invasion and been end of Sadam 10 years earlier
most interesting hypothetical is what happens in the middle east after/before 9/11 (if it even happens?) with the power vacuum and destabilized/occupied iraq

i doubt the US and collation would approve the use of nukes
isn't it basic policy of all US, China, Russia to not use nukes unless attacked with them first?
i know that means nothing but i just don't see iraq getting nuked when they could just be steamrolled like they were with conventional means

SoS Baker in mid January warned Iraq in a veiled way that the use of chemical weapons against the coalition could lead to nuclear retaliation. Not guaranteed since they couldve continued to Baghdad to take out Saddam but it was a warning.
The US and many other nuclear armed countries doesn't differentiate between the WMDs. It's stated US policy that the use of nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons could be met with a nuclear response.
Also only India and China officially have a no first use policy.

The ground war would have taken twice as long with six total days of clearing defenses and brushing aside Iraqi resistance.

America would have retaliated even harder and would have kept going after pushing him out of Kuwait, deposing him 13 years sooner.

America wouldn't have retaliated with WMDs of their own and were even expecting Saddam to gas them and a much more grueling fight than they got. They still had no plans to use WMDs when 5,000 Americans were dead and Saddam had been using chemical weapons.
