He crossed the Rubicon (killing Kennedy) and imposed an authoritarian government in place of our former republic by creating the credibility gap that persists today.

I know, that's why I said "America's Sulla", not "Rome's Second Sulla".

Sounds like LBJ. Killed Kennedy and overthrew republic with his retarded welfare, civil rights and immigration acts.

LBJ got us into Vietnam. Nixon got us out. Credibility gap started with LBJ and Nixon tried (and failed) to close it.

I'm not sure if I should make fun of your politics or your limited knowledge of ancient Rome.
Reagan was America's Caesar: he took the broken republic / intelligence state and made people love him for his subversion of it. Trump is America's Claudius, or perhaps its Nero. Moments of brilliance, yet doomed to leave a legacy of shame, a victim of his own sexual deviance.

>rabble-rousing populist with a "man of the people" public image
>gets blamed by his critics for the "erosion of democracy" when it had in fact been on the decline for years and his rise was merely a symptom of a deeper problem
>politically sledgehammered his way into the highest office of the Republic, much to the anger of the Establishment
>began eroding the institutions he pledged to uphold when they stood in the way of his agenda
>will probably be killed by the Establishment in a last ditch attempt to preserve their own power and have it backfire spectacularly
>any remaining facade of Republicanism will probably completely crumble when he dies/is forced out of office

How is the man NOT America's Caesar (aside from the fact he never served in the military)?

Because you just described Reagan, and Trump came a generation later, an older political underdog showing unprecedented promise only to fall victim to his own appetites (Claudius). If he actually affected the change he'd promised to affect, then he'd have effectively wiped away the old system and created a new dynasty (Vespasian and the Flavian Dynasty). But he hasn't done that; your "Caesar" is only so in his sexual desires concerning that king of the East. Bibi is the Nicomedes to your "Caesar". The similarities to the real Caesar, unfortunately, end with his homosexuality.

trump isn't actually popular and has only managed to get by because the 2 candidates he's ran against were exceptionally hated and terrible. he hasn't done more to erode institutions than other presidents, especially since a bunch of the federal workers elon fired were immediately hired back and the whole thing turned out to be nothing more than run of the mill budget cuts after it was done. people really thought he was going to ignore the court order to bring back that one illegal spic that was deported to el salvador, only for the trump admin to actually follow the order and bring him back. the trade war shitshow is the only real significant shake up he's actually done, and it's proven to already be unpopular and something that constantly gets delayed every other month. only retarded midwit larpers think that trump is "omg le american crossing teh rubicon!!!" when in reality he's just a standard republican but with dementia.
