>>17832748You just fundamentally misunderstand how New York City operates. Neighborhoods are segregated by race, so racial visibility is based on each neighborhood as opposed to the city as a whole. You might have a neighborhood with 5% White people and one with 95% White people.
It might be the case there are less Italians then the peak, but 800,000+ in 2025 is hardly something to scoff at. Compare them to another nationality: there are 240,000 Indians in NYC. So right now, there are 4X as many Italians in NYC as Indians. You wouldn’t say Indians are an insignificant portion of NYC so why would you say Italians?
The problem is that black and brown people, many of whom don’t have roots in New York and/or their connections with the place are dubious at best, misunderstand the city and think it’s like a rust belt city such as Cleveland or Detroit or even Philadelphia. But New York isn’t like that. There was not a “White Flight” in New York. This phenomenon simply never occurred there.
you can talk about Whites being pushed out/demographically declining in certain areas (ie parts of the Bronx or Queens) but this never happened in every neighborhood , nor did it happen in the city as a whole.
White flight never happened in NYC.
