They're supposed to be next and greatest form of Monotheism, and they had an outstanding start dominating the map for 300 years, reaching an apex in the 900s, and then a revival in the 1400s-1500s. But after that is has been one humiliation after another. Even their recent victories are massively costly pyrrhic victory at best. Take the Taliban for example, they suffered the worst kill to death ratio in human history (60 to 1) only to end up deep into a depression. And that's the greatest Muslim victory in the last 500 years.
First of all, how did this happen?
Second, how do they cope?

It's not. People are not converting to Islam. The Islamic populations immigrated to Europe, but immigration is being curbed now and many will be deported soon. The islamification of Europe is a nothingburger. The secularization of the middle East is happening though. Christianity did not defeat Islam in Turkey. The appeal of modern secular society did.

Islam is christianity, but why? Why did we need a second christianity at the time? It's because christendom is a civilization, not a spiritual kingdom, and christendom has limits. Look at the Armenian genocide, why didn't christians protect their own against the heathen? Islam was created as a response to weak christianity on the frontier where central christian authority didn't really exist. That's why islam is so obsessed with worldly matters and aesthetics, they're still trying to convert the physical world from a pagan hellscape to something worthy of christianity. Simply making everyone christian without enforcing the removal of paganism is a recipe for disaster. Islam has served its role.
