The "fucked up reason" was they didn't want to cede any territory to Germany (The Bolshies were smart enough to know Germany was going to lose the larger anyway and they could just take it right back after that) and they wanted to stay on the Western allies' good side who obviously didn't want a whole front against the Germans to be closed off in a separate peace. Bolshies obviously didn't care what the westoids thought because they would never accept a communist government in Russia anyway.

Germany, even with Russia out of the war collapsed a year after Russia did. Russia was in a state of bloody civil war for 4 more years with a year of intensive full scale war with Poland thrown into that. I have no idea what God forsaken reason would Russian government that wasn't run by German spies have in keeping the country at war for just a little longer.

With Russians still fighting at full scale in 1918 Germany doesn't have the reserves it used for spring offensives, doesn't have a lot of food they normally requisitioned and captured in Russia and Romania and is a sitting duck for the entente to wreck it. Bolsheviks were German agents.
