In hindsight, it is obvious that Hitler’s movement was the only one that had the potential to truly turn the clock back on liberalism, which makes Hitler’s rightist opponents like Churchill look like fools in retrospect. Towards the end of the war he strongly objected to reducing Germany too much because he wanted to preserve a moderately strong Germany post-1945 (while USA and USSR wanted to permanently cripple Germany) in order to preserve the balance of power, which was part and parcel of British foreign policy. He advocated for rearming the wehrmacht into the allies immediately after the war.

Stormfags only hate him because he had a typical Horatio Nelson type of attitude towards anyone near Britain who could be percieved as a threat (tho Nelsons generation was completely obssessed with France, for Churchills generation is was Germany), and that he was prepared to go all the way just to win, which in hindsight turned out to be a big price.
