How much was tax was it normal to have to pay before the advent of woke (1789) and the second wave of woke (1913)? I asked grok amd xe told me you had to pay a tithe to rhe church as well as up to 30% of your harvest to your lord for protection. So was the burden equal to now?

In France? Anywhere between 60% to more than 110% for members of the Third Estate that weren't office holders, with members of the First and Second estate maxing out at at probably 15%, if consumer taxes are included.
Taine's The origins of contemporary France has some data and examples.
